Load safety, load securing and working at height
Load safety, load securing and working at height is a high priority subject on the table for many vehicle operators – as the roll out of the Health and Safety (HSE) and VOSA safe loading campaign is increasing, the tightening of existing laws accompanied by strict penalties is forcing industry organisations to look at their procedures for compliance on this current issue.
The penalties for unsafe loads range from a verbal warning through to an immediate prohibition notice for the company, which may also involve follow – up action by VOSA.

Peter MacLeod was invited for an exclusive tour of The Co-operative Group’s new £15 million distribution depot at Birtley, which features materials handling equipment powered by energy efficient, zero maintenance EnerSys Hawker Evolution batteries.
The Co-operative Group’s new 280,000ft2 facility at Birtley in Co.Durham serves the retailer’s 260 food stores in Scotland and the north of England. Orders are picked at a rate of 500,000 cases per week, and there are 200 outbound deliveries a day. More than 550 staff are employed at the site, including drivers, warehouse operatives and vehicle maintenance staff, as well as staff working in food retail administration and other parts of The Co-operative business. The facility is operated by Co-operative Retail Logistics.
Joloda launches an easy loader VanLoda
With mounting pressure to reduce the number of large trucks for urban deliveries, light vans are increasingly used for the carriage of pallets and other heavy and awkward items.
The new VanLoda system from Joloda enables up to three pallets up to 1000 kilos in weight and of various footprint sizes (four in long wheel base vehicles) to be loaded and pushed into the length of the vehicle by one man without undue strain.

Hart Doors’ latest installation
One of Hart Door Systems' latest international orders has now been installed at Bermuda's Emissions Control Testing Station. This view shows the Speedor Super, Hart's high-speed, automatic, door, installed and fully functional at the vehicular entrance to the facility.
