Doubling up on advantages at Walkers operation
A combination of two AC electric powered Aisle-Masters fitted with telescopic forks and double-deep storage is enabling Walkers Transport to make maximum use of its warehousing facilities in Leeds.
Walkers specialises in the express distribution of palletised goods, stocking “everything from motorbikes to mineral water,” according to warehouse manager Chris Burley. The company has been operating a VNA system since it moved to its present site five years ago, and recently replaced its old fleet. “We tested all the articulated brands on the market,” says Chris, ”and the Aisle-Master won hands down in terms of quality, robust build and operator comfort.” 4,000 pallets are accommodated in the racking, and double deep storage is central to achieving this density – Chris estimates that at least a third of the overall pallet capacity would be lost without it.
One truck solution from Aisle-Master
A build quality second to none, superb reliability and customised build options are hallmarks of the Aisle-Master range of articulated forklifts.
The wide range of Aisle-Master models enables you to increase storage whilst at the same time cutting costs and speeding up the handling process – and this is all down to the ingenious articulated design of the Aisle-Master, its manoeuvrability, ability to work in very narrow aisles and versatile indoor and outdoor capabilities.
Strong outlook from BITA
James Clark, secretary general of BITA (the British Industrial Truck Association) recaps on a difficult year in 2009 and shares some more encouraging forecast data for 2010.
If ever there was a time to commiserate, the first half of 2009 surely takes the biscuit! The fork lift truck market saw one of the biggest ever declines in activity during this period, with deliveries down by almost 50% year-on-year while orders decreased almost 40%. Underlying this trend, manufacturing activity plunged amid weak demand and destocking, while retail sales were hit by consumers retrenching.
Innovative container handler solution from Cooper SH helps increase productivity
An innovative container handler solution from Cooper SH has increased productivity for the West London Waste Authority, giving its flt operators greater confidence in driving and working at full efficiency.
When two of London’s busiest waste transfer depots needed a bespoke materials handling solution to accommodate time-critical operations, Cooper SH thought ‘outside-the-box’ and offered an innovative solution. Now the West London Waste Authority (WLWA) has taken delivery of four container handlers that have increased productivity and even made operators ‘fight’ over driving them.
Narrow Aisle’s flexible friend
Narrow Aisle Flexi has announced the introduction of a new product designed to save space and optimise materials handling efficiency and safety within the warehouse, distribution centre or factory.
The new Flexi VNA is the latest addition to the Flexi range of articulated fork lift trucks and is the first four-wheel true articulated truck capable of operating in aisles as narrow as 1.6m wide. Its launch means that existing users of guided Man Up and Man Up VNA equipment have the option of direct replacement with a truck which is faster and offered at a lower cost.
Driving a fork lift? Anyone can do it…
Peter MacLeod was invited by Translift to see for himself how simple it is to drive a Bendi articulated fork lift truck.
Our industry is riddled with wonderful characters and fascinating products. One company where these two aspects come together is Trasnslift Bendi, which under the auspices of Fred Brown has grown into a worldwide exporter renowned for its innovation.
