New links in the energy chain

Energy chain specialist igus has introduced six new product lines to its Triflex R system of third-generation 6-axis robot energy chains. The multi-axial energy supply system, developed specifically for sophisticated 6-axis robotic applications in harsh industrial environments, now comprises well over 200 components.

“Our primary goal is to provide our customers with technological advances in the robotics industry, while reducing process costs,” said Justin Leonard at igus UK. “With the introduction of these six new product lines to the Triflex R system, all the requirements of large welding robots to small palletising robots can now be met.”

Continental scores at the Tyre and Fast Fit Awards

Continental recently scored a double hit at the Tyre and Fast Fit Awards after being named Manufacturer of the Year 2009, and winning the Industry Advertising Campaign Award for its Great Days Out campaign.

Continental was awarded the highest accolade by members of the tyre industry after being named Manufacturer of the Year 2009 by the NTDA (National Tyre Distributors Association) at the Tyre and Fast Fit (TAFF) Awards.

Watts Tyre Group announces 2010 price rise

Watts Tyre Group has announced an average 6% price increase as of 1st January 2010 following significant increases in raw material prices, principally natural rubber which forms the principle cost element of solid tyres. Watts also expects transportation costs to increase over the coming months.

RSS3 pricing broke through the 2.80US$/kg barrier in early December, 12 months after hitting a low of 1.07US$/kg – an astonishing rise of 165%. Over the last quarter the price has risen by over 30% alone bringing it within reach of the 2008 record high.

A recent signed agreement between Watts Tyre Group and Trelleborg Industrial Tires Europe will see the expertise of the UK company combined with the service capability of the French tyre manufacturer to create a truly focused service business.

Watts Tyre Group has recently announced a signed agreement with Trelleborg Industrial Tires Europe for the distribution of Trelleborg industrial tyre products in France. As part of the agreement Watts will integrate Trelleborg’s industrial tyres activities with its own and will now distribute Trelleborg tyre products alongside the Watts product range.

Doubling up on advantages at Walkers operation

A combination of two AC electric powered Aisle-Masters fitted with telescopic forks and double-deep storage is enabling Walkers Transport to make maximum use of its warehousing facilities in Leeds.

Walkers specialises in the express distribution of palletised goods, stocking “everything from motorbikes to mineral water,” according to warehouse manager Chris Burley. The company has been operating a VNA system since it moved to its present site five years ago, and recently replaced its old fleet. “We tested all the articulated brands on the market,” says Chris, ”and the Aisle-Master won hands down in terms of quality, robust build and operator comfort.” 4,000 pallets are accommodated in the racking, and double deep storage is central to achieving this density – Chris estimates that at least a third of the overall pallet capacity would be lost without it.
