Zed Chex anti-fatigue matting helps prevent health problems
A 2005 TUC report states that up to 11 million UK workers face serious health problems from prolonged standing at work. Each year more than two million sick days are lost due to lower limb disorders, with nearly 200,000 people reporting lower limb ailments caused or made worse by their job including work-related varicose veins, poor circulation and swelling in the feet and legs, foot problems and joint damage.
To help overcome these problems, employers use anti-fatigue matting. Zed Chex from Plastic Extruders Ltd is specially designed to relieve standing fatigue caused by long periods of standing or walking on hard, concrete floors – about the worst possible surface. Manufactured by thermally bonding patented Zedland foam to a tough vinyl chequer plate wear layer, Zed Chex will not suffer from separation.

CogriGroup’s concrete solution
When a leading pharmaceutical company needed to upgrade the floors of its UK distribution centre, the CogriGroup prescribed a floor remedy that cured the problem.

The floor within the aisles at its UK Distribution Centre in Chapeltown, Sheffield was in need of an upgrade to better support its operational requirements.
Concrete Grinding goes flat out
Concrete Grinding Ltd (CG) worked in partnership with Eurolit at a new facility for BIC-Violex SA in Athens.
The assignment was very similar to the Aktor project CG did for IKEA in 2007/8. Eurolit constructed the steel fibre reinforced floor to a high standard. Face Consultants then tested the aisles for compliance to the DIN 15185 specification within the proposed truck wheel paths. The graphic traces were then analysed and any sections which did not comply with the specification were highlighted. Subsequently, Concrete Grinding used the Laser Grinder to correct the floor within the wheel tracks at these locations.

Incorrect preparation of floors can cause more problems than it solves, so it is important to get it right. Tracey Glew, managing director of The Preparation Group, gives an overview of alternative preparation methods.
The key to creating a perfect, durable floor is in the preparation. Faced with inevitable problems such as uneven joints, high spots, contaminants, worn coatings, sticky residues, unwanted safety signs and markings, what is the best way to prepare it? Incorrect preparation will cause problems further down the line, so it is important to get it right. There is an array of surface preparation equipment and many different techniques - each produces a different result. A preparation method may be specified by the flooring material manufacturer but usually the first stage is to remove the damaged surface.

Floor levelling expert CoGri Group overcame a tough challenge ‘down-under’, when it was asked to smooth a stubborn floor for IKEA’s new VNA facility.
