UPS parcel deliveries reach one billion in 2012
Leading transportation and logistics service provider UPS has announced the number of parcel deliveries topped one billion in the first quarter of 2012, an increase of 4.3 per cent year on year.
The first quarter results showed that diluted earnings per share stood at $1 (60p), a ten per cent increase compared with the same period last year, while consolidated revenue rose by 4.4 per cent to $13.1 billion.
HS2 ceo reappointed by government
Alison Munro has been reappointed by the government as the chief executive of HS2 Ltd, the independent company responsible for delivering a high speed rail network between London, Birmingham and the North of England.
The Department for Transport said that since Ms Munro had been appointed head of HS2 Ltd in 2009, under her leadership HS2 Ltd had planned, structured and managed a complex mixture of tasks to develop high speed rail proposals.

GNB Industrial Power, a division of Exide Technologies, announces the addition of two new batteries in its Sonnenschein line of products, as well as unveiling an improved version of its innovative spiral wound battery.
For cleaning machines GNB has developed the new Sonnenschein GF 12 076V, which has improved high current tolerance and significantly increased capacity to meet the cleaning industry’s ever-expanding performance criteria. Axiom increases productivity for Lakeland
Tamworth-based Axiom GB has manufactured and installed an automated packing solution at Lakeland’s mail order distribution centre in Kendal. The new system has been designed to nearly double the productivity of Lakeland’s operation whilst reducing costs and presenting a better finished parcel for the customer.
Lakeland is a family-owned business which will celebrate its 50th year of operation in 2013. The company has grown from humble beginnings to become one of the UK’s leading kitchenware companies offering over 4,000 different lines.
