Spare a thought for the ‘secret santas’

Spare a thought for the poor old truck drivers in these wintry conditions. In the south-east, several major roads have been closed today (Friday) due to jack-knifed artics blocking the way.

It's no fun driving a small family car in this weather, even less so when you're behind the wheel of a juggernaut. When our Christmas pud fails to appear on the shelf of our local supermarket, or when the butcher runs out of turkey, that's a very real-world indication that something has broken down in the supply chain. Try to spare your wrath by considering the tough times these drivers are currently having.

These 'secret santas' plough their way up and down our roads each day to ensure we are fed, clothed and medicined. They deliver to exact times at depots and shops at all hours of the day and night. When things go wrong, we make a fuss. So, my message is simple: back off, take it in your stride, feel the joy of Christmas, and appreciate the fabulous work going on behind-the-scenes in the supply chain for the remaining 99.9% of the time when everything works like clockwork.
