Troax Limited installs new modular machine fencing system for GlaxoSmithKline
Industrial safety specialist Troax UK Limited has installed its modular machine fencing system, Smart Fix, at a newly refurbished warehouse near Gloucester managed by Wincanton on behalf of pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline.
The Smart Fix safety fencing isolates a series of crane aisles in the high bay warehouse, protecting employees working in this highly automated area. Troax designed and installed the entire guarding system, creating safety zones around 18 crane aisles where 15 automated stacker cranes are in constant operation in the high bay system, picking pallets of merchandise including over-the-counter medicines and soft drinks from racking.
DHL wins important logistics award in Italy
DHL Supply Chain Italy has won the 2009 Logistics Award in recognition of the company’s GoGreen program, aiming to improve carbon efficiency by 30 percent by 2020. The Logistics Awards are presented annually by the Italian logistics association ‘Assologistica’, logistics journal ‘Euromerci’ and the organization ‘Assologistica Cultura e Formazione’.
Deutsche Post DHL’s GoGreen program addresses the challenge of climate change and forms the basis for the company’s environmental involvement. The company aims to improve its carbon footprint for every letter and parcel sent, every tonne of cargo transported and every square meter of warehouse space used, by 30 percent by 2020. With this target the No. 1 global logistics company is the first major company in its industry to set a quantifiable climate protection target.
Jungheinrich acquires stake in leading software company
Materials handling specialist Jungheinrich has acquired a significant stake holding in ISA-Innovative, a leading warehouse management systems software company.
In recent years Jungheinrich has co-operated with Austria-based ISA on several large systems projects across Europe and by acquiring part of the company, Jungheinrich has expanded its software capabilities significantly.
Cert Octavian wins £30m Forster’s EMEA distribution tender on ‘exceptional service’
Foster’s EMEA has announced the much awaited result of its drinks distribution tender process by revealing that premium product logistics provider Cert Octavian has been awarded the contract following an intensive strategic review. The contract covers Foster’s EMEA business for three years from May 2010 with an additional two year option in a deal which could exceed £30 million.
Foster’s EMEA portfolio comprises over 80 brands including VB, Rosemount, Penfolds, Wolf Blass, Lindemans and Crown Ambassador.
Tesco chief wins Seahorse Club Award for green transport initiatives
Sir Terry Leahy, chief executive Officer of Tesco PLC, was presented with the accolade of ‘Personality of the Year’ at the Seahorse Club’s Annual Media Awards, held at TT Club’s London headquarters on 15th December 2009.
The award was made in recognition of the contribution Tesco has made to adopting green transport policies and reducing its carbon footprint throughout its distribution systems.
Avonmouth distribution hub gets green light from planners
An industrial park scheme near Avonmouth totalling 2.5m sq ft has been granted outline planning consent by Bristol City Council. Warwickshire-based developer Bericote Properties has received the green light for the scheme, which includes a 1m sq ft distribution park on a 62 acre site.
The consent includes a 550,000 sq ft frozen warehouse at the site, which reports suggest is earmarked for ASDA.
