DHL sponsors Olympic Atlantic Row project
DHL, one of the leading logistics companies, has announced its sponsorship of the OAR Project (Olympic Atlantic Row), the first ocean rowing attempt on record to cross the North Atlantic from St John’s, Newfoundland to Bristol, England continuing through the British Inland Waterways.
The 2,000 mile journey will challenge the two ocean rowers to reach London in time for the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Maersk McKinney Møller, shipping magnate, dies
Maersk McKinney Møller, the former chairman of the AP Møller Maersk and the Maersk Line, has died.
Møller was the son of Arnold Peter Møller – founder of the AP Møller Maersk group. He built a Danish family shipping business into an international conglomerate which runs one of the world's biggest shipping companies, founded in 1904 and includes Maersk Line.
Stop diesel profiteering now, says RHA
Evidence of profiteering by fuel retailers has been revealed by the Road Haulage Association.
"We have no doubt that diesel prices at the forecourt have rocketed as a result of the uncertainty caused by the threat of a tanker drivers’ strike," said Geoff Dunning, RHA chief executive.
Business relocation specialist appoints Pluscrates
Crate rental company Pluscrates has been appointed sole supplier of crate rental services to long established business relocation specialist Johnson Business Moves (JBM). The partnership, which began in February, is expected to continue beyond 2017.
According to JBM, which celebrates its 141st anniversary this year, the Pluscrates appointment is part of a quality initiative intended to bring continuous, planned improvements across its portfolio of services, which include commercial relocation, project management, IT and PC moves, asset recycling and archive records management.
Manufacturers ignore ways to cut operating costs
With operating costs spiralling, manufacturers and retailers are having to face tough cost saving decisions impacting their workforce and suppliers.

Approval sought for new Parcelforce Worldwide DC
Approval has been sought for a new Parcelforce Worldwide distribution centre.
The application is for a proposed Royal Mail facility that would be based in Chorley, Lancashire and would help to boost efficiency for the group's north-west operations.
