didBOX, the supplier of driver identification and crash monitoring systems for vehicle and fork lift truck fleets, has been acquired by I.D. Systems, a global provider of vehicle management systems.

DHL to deliver 6.5 billion papers for News International

DHL Supply Chain has been awarded a multi-million pound contract with News International to handle the delivery of four leading national newspapers, from print plants to wholesalers across England and Wales. The deal will see DHL delivering The Sun, The Times, News of the World and The Sunday Times – amounting to over 25 million newspapers every week, or 6.5 billion over the five-year term of the contract.

The partnership follows a 12-way competitive pitch. News International is the largest publisher of newspapers in the UK and the deal covers distribution from its four print plants, through the DHL Supply Chain network, to over 68 locations, seven days a week, 364 days a year.

Wincanton posts fall in profit, says “outlook is positive”

Haulage and logistics compmany Wincanton Plc reported a 16% fall in first-half profit, hit by lower client activity and restructuring costs, but said stability was returning and the outlook was positive.

"There has been much more stability in the last four to six months but the helter-skelter that we were on 12 months ago seems to have gone and hopefully that will lead to growth," says chief executive Graeme McFaull.

Constructor Group unveils plans for UK distribution hub

One of the leading European storage equipment manufacturers, Constructor Group AS, has announced a number of changes to streamline its UK operations and utilise the Group’s significant resources to further strengthen its position in the UK market. These changes follow Constructor Group’s acquisition of Swindon based Planned Storage Systems (PSS), which has provided it with a first-rate location to create a distribution hub for its UK operation.

The company has appointed the Architect & Design Team of the property consultants, Kings Sturge, to provide bespoke designs for the complete renovation of the Group’s Swindon site. A major investment in the site, amounting to just over £1Million, will result in the old manufacturing plant being transformed into a modern, efficient distribution centre. This latest investment further demonstrates the financial commitment of Constructor Group, and its owners the Scandinavian based Altor Equity Partners, to further develop the UK market with its renowned Dexion, PSS and Bruynzeel brands.

Swedish government to invest £5.2m in Volvo’s fuel cell technology

The Swedish government's venture capital company for the automotive industry, Fouriertransform, is making its first investment of SEK60 million (£5.2 million) in Powercell Sweden AB, which develops, produces and sells fuel cells, fuel reformers and auxillary power units.

"We regard it as very positive that Powercell will gain an additional strong financial owner. This will enable us to be a long-term partner in heavy industrial development projects," says Per Wassén, chairman of Powercell Sweden AB and Investment Director at Volvo Technology Transfer.
