Irish logistics networking event to be held in April
The Fourth Irish Logistics Networking Lunch takes place at the Carlton Hotel, Dublin Airport on 3rd April 2012.
The event is organised jointly by the All Ireland Warehousing Association (AIWA) and the United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA) on behalf of the International Federation of Warehousing Logistics Associations (IFWLA) and the Confederation Europeene de l’Entreposage et de la Logistique (CEEL) and is supported by CILT (Ireland).
IMHX exhibitors to benefit from increased market buoyancy
With the CBI’s most recent business surveys showing improvement in manufacturing order books, stabilisation in retail sales and continued growth in e-commerce, the green shoots in Britain’s economy seem to be emerging at last.
Coming hot on the heels of the latest statistics from the British Industrial Truck Association (BITA) – whose 78 members account for over 90% of all new forklifts procured each year in the UK – the intralogistics sector has much to be positive about. Overall forklift sales increased by an encouraging 20% in 2011 compared to 2010, with powered pallet trucks the category showing the strongest improvement (50% year-on-year) and engine counterbalance trucks accounting for more than a third of all sales.
FTA freight transport seminar visits Dublin
The Freight Transport Association’s Transport Manager seminar series, aimed at preparing transport managers for the year ahead, will be visiting Dublin on 21st March. The seminar, supported by leading tyre manufacturer Goodyear and specialist insurance broker Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT) Ireland, will arm transport managers with the tools they need to meet the challenges of an increasingly pressured environment in which their role is always changing.
Keeping transport operators at the forefront of the latest legislation, best practice and compliance has always been FTA’s aim and the seminar will give delegates the opportunity to hear at first hand about key legislation to ensure their operation is fully prepared for the future.
Charity dinner in aid of Matthew Good Foundation
Hull-based family business, the John Good Group, is set to hold a charity dinner and auction, with all proceeds going to the Matthew Good Foundation. The event will be held on 18th May at Trinity Park in Ipswich.
Guests at the event will enjoy a drinks reception, four-course dinner and a charity auction, along with musical entertainment from The Inflatables. Current auction prizes include a week’s accommodation in France, and Joe Hart’s signed goalkeeping gloves.
FLTA award winners announced
Double winners Combilift led an impressive field of champions, as the Fork Lift Truck Association presented its 18th annual Awards for Excellence on Saturday.
The sold-out audience roared in approval as the Irish manufacturer collected the coveted “Victor Ludorum” award; a unique, gold-plated “Archie” statuette created to mark the Association’s 40th year.
Open day allows employers to discuss skills training
Skills for Logistics (SfL), the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for the UK’s freight logistics industries, and the National Skills Academy for Logistics (NSAL) are holding a joint open day for employers at SfL’s Milton Keynes offices on Thursday March 1st, 2012.
The purpose of the event is to enable employers in the logistics sector to learn more about the range of Logistics programmes, including apprenticeships available across the sector. Key SfL and NSAL personnel will also be on hand to advise employers on how best to access Government subsidies to sit alongside their own investment in skills within their business.
