Asda and The Co-op to bring logistics in-house

Both groups are each putting huge sums of money in to their in-house logistics in an effort to significantly improve their UK networks.

‘MotherTrucker’ and RTITB Academy graduate dispels female stereotypes

MotherTrucker_Jill_Noble_thumb.jpgWithin the road, freight and logistics industry it is a largely acknowledged fact that this is an industry that is dominated by men. With just 2% of all professional drivers being female, it can be understandable why many fail to see women within this role. However, a new documentary-reality programme courtesy of Channel 4, starring a graduate of The RTITB Academy, has recently been launched onto our television screens.

First aired on 9th February, MotherTruckers follows the professional and personal lives of several professional female drivers, including Jill Noble, who obtained her LGV Assessor training at The RTITB Academy in Telford, Shropshire.

SSI solution leads to 40% productivity increase

wine3.pngSSI Schaefer has provided The Wine Society with a much-needed high-bay storage solution and a picking, packing and sortation solution within its Stevenage distribution centre in Hertfordshire.

The installation, now fully operational and complete with high-bay pallet racking, Live Carton Storage (KDR), shelving, integrated conveyor systems, case-picking, single item zone-picking and carton shipping sortation, has given The Wine Society a 40% increase in productivity since going live.

New chairman for FTA’s road freight council

The Freight Transport Association's freight councils have a well-earned reputation for turning powerful argument into demonstrable achievement; from defeating poorly devised and potentially counter-productive proposals to make 'eco-driving' a mandatory part of professional driver training, to seeing off EU proposals banning operators from calibrating their own tachographs. FTA's road freight council can lay claim to being behind various significant wins for road transport operators.

Norbert Dentressangle opens Ireland subsidiary

Norbert_Dentressangle_logo.gifNorbert Dentressangle has opened a new subsidiary in Ireland to help grow its business. The subsidiary company, Norbert Dentressangle Logistics Ireland Ltd, currently employs 120 people, and will provide added-value warehousing and distribution solutions across the country.

The company has existing operations in Dublin, Belfast and Co. Kildare, and it is anticipated that the new subsidiary will create up to 20 additional jobs over the next 12 months.

TNT Express launches new strategy for 2012

TNT Express has launched a new strategy, ‘Building on Strengths’.
