An LEEA accreditation first

Chesterfield-based Mentor Training is the first company in the world to have one of its training courses independently accredited by the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA).

This official ‘seal of approval’ from the LEEA demonstrates that Mentor’s two day lifting and slinging course has been successfully assessed by the trade association as meeting a range of rigorous professional standards.

Contest announced to find oldest working barcode device

Mobile technology services company Ryzex has launched a contest to identify the world’s oldest working barcode data collection device.

'The Big Upgrade' competition provides a chance to turn old, outdated data capture equipment into new technology, with the winner receiving a new handheld computer from Psion Teklogix to replace their old legacy device. In order to be considered for the contest, participants need to provide contact and device information, including a photo of their legacy equipment in action.

Smartstak celebrates Queen’s Award

Smartstak, a division of the supply chain innovator Loadhog Limited, has won a 2009 Queen's Award for innovation for its revolutionary glass bottle transportation and storage system.

Launched in 2007, the patented Smartstak System comprises an injection moulded, waved edge layer pad and a spring loaded Smartframe which work together to prevent the collapse of bottle packs during transportation or storage.

NACCO announces Q2 2009 results

NACCO Industries, Inc., the parent of forklift companies Hyster and Yale, has announced consolidated net income attributable to stockholders for the second quarter of 2009 of $1.6 million, or $0.19 per diluted share, on revenues of $545.2 million compared with consolidated net income attributable to stockholders for the second quarter of 2008 of $2.3 million, or $0.28 per diluted share, on revenues of $948.1 million.

Revenues declined in the second quarter of 2009 primarily as a result of lower volumes at NACCO's materials handling subsidiary due to a significant drop in global market demand.

Tesco saves £1m with intelligent Traka forklift key

Working with leading UK retail supermarket giant Tesco, Traka is to improve the current key control and access management system for fork truck fleets in three new and 19 existing UK distribution centres. Initially, this will involve upgrading over 2,200 fork trucks at Tesco sites.

Previously, keys for fork trucks were collected and returned to the Traka cabinet at the beginning and end of each shift. However, Tesco identified that staff accessing the existing key management cabinets could create significant bottlenecks when gathering to collect or return keys. By adopting a new approach to key management, some two minutes per person, per truck, across all shifts has been saved.
