Worker death calls for review of forklift training
The family of a man killed instantly when a heavy load from a forklift struck him on the head have demanded new rules for operating factory equipment in the hope it will prevent further tragedies in the future.
25-year old welding engineer Bruce Dempsey from Eccles in Manchester suffered a fractured skull when a large metal counter-balance hit his head in a warehouse at Heavey Engineering, Eccles in December 2009 as he helped to move a fly press that was being carried on a fork lift truck.

UPDATE: Man fatally injured by forklift
A 60-year-old man has died after being hit by a fork lift truck at a Jewsons factory in Beaumont Road, Banbury, Oxfordshire.
Police and the Ambulance Service were called to the site of the incident on Friday (10th February) afternoon. The man, who is said to be local to the Banbury area, was taken by ambulance to the Horton General Hospital but later died.
Delivery driver killed by pallet
A Hampshire lift manufacturer has been fined £65,000 after a delivery driver was crushed to death against his own lorry by a fork lift truck.
Adam Millichip, from Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire, was delivering sheet metal to Wessex Lift Co Ltd, in Romsey, on 16th November, 2007. Winchester Crown Court heard that the 27-year-old was hit by a one-tonne pallet, being moved by a fork lift truck, which crushed him against his lorry. The father of one was taken to Southampton hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
UPDATE: Forklift mechanic’s death was accidental
The death of a mechanical engineer following the explosion of a fork lift truck tyre was "avoidable", an inquest has heard.
Gary Deaves, 48, of Ipswich, died as a result of the serious injuries he sustained when a wheel he was removing from the 1979 Hyster Challenger truck for maintenance exploded in his face. He was working for Associated British Ports (ABP) in its workshop at at Cliff Quay, Ipswich Docks.
