Expanding logistics firm appoints new head of sales
Leading logistics company Torque, has announced the appointment of Vanessa Hope as head of sales and marketing.
Building on the recently launched Torque brand, Vanessa will direct the sales and marketing team to deliver ambitious growth plans offering the Torque total supply chain solution, with the “no one size fits all approach”. Vanessa has more than 20 years of experience, with a strong background in retail, brand management and third party logistics.
Advanced Supply Chain operations centre opens in Leeds
Advanced Supply Chain has opened a new 200,000 square feet operations centre in Birstall, Leeds.
The opening follows an increase in demand from its freight forwarding and clothing manufacturing customers.
FTA helps raise awareness of rail and road freight
The Freight Transport Association has launched its Mode Shift Centre (www.modeshiftcentre.org.uk), a free service aimed at helping potential users of rail and water freight make the best possible use of those modes.
The Mode Shift Centre is the result of discussions between FTA, government and the rail and water freight industries to try to raise awareness across the logistics sector of what other modes can offer as a complement to road. The service will link with and expand the continuing work of Freight by Water – the UK’s Short-sea Promotion Centre, which FTA took on at the end of 2010.
Survey shows confusion over Thorough Examination
A survey among companies owning and operating fork lift trucks has found that most Thorough Examinations do not meet user expectations. Indeed, a clear majority is confused by what exactly is included and who is responsible for making sure a truck conforms to legal requirements.
The survey – conducted by Consolidated Fork Truck Services – involved telephone interviews with truck users throughout the UK extending across a broad cross-section of industrial classifications and fleet sizes in order to ensure a representative sample.
Sergo-Moorfield acquires UK Logistics Fund
A 50-50 joint venture of industrial REIT Segro and private equity fund manager Moorfield has completed the acquisition of the UK Logistics Fund (UKLF) for £315m (EUR 375m). The vendors were Hermes Real Estate Investment Management, Legal & General and LaSalle Investment Management.
The deal was first announced on 19th December last year.
DHL trials driveline efficiency technology
Since March 2010, DHL Supply Chain has supplied in-flight catering for around 200 British Airways flights per day, with 38 trucks shuttling back and forth, 18 to 20 hours a day, 365 days per year between DHL’s Flight Assembly Centre and Heathrow terminals 3 and 5, some three miles away.
Six months into the contract, DHL Supply Chain’s Engineering team ran a Safety and Performance improvement workshop, resulting in a trial of RELS (Reduced Engine Loading at Stop) driveline efficiency technology.
