Pall-Ex’s Northern Hub provides increased services
Pall-Ex has announced a new base for its Northern Hub, allowing the palletised freight network to provide an increased service offering for its members and customers.
Situated in Carlisle, the new 40,000 sq ft facility is based on a 30-acre site close to the M6 motorway. It will allow Pall-Ex to offer a full service logistics solution to help facilitate operations and continue to improve efficient delivery across northern England and Scotland.
DIRFT Phase III goes out to Planning Inspectorate
Plans for a 7.6m sq ft third phase at Daventry’s International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT) will go to government planning inspectors later this spring, as the Northampton scheme takes a lead ahead of two rival projects.
Sources close to ProLogis, who are backing the DIRFT plan, say they expect to submit an application to the government’s Planning Inspectorate in late spring. The move comes as final changes are made to rail alignments and open space.
Mudguard maker takes over Lancashire warehouse
Mudguard maker Jonesco is to take a new 115,000 sq ft warehouse in Preston. The deal will see the local manufacturer occupy a design-and-build unit after a deal with Lancashire developers Barnfield Construction.
The new warehouse will be at Caxton Road, Fulwood. Barnfield have applied for planning permission. Earlier this year another local business, bed maker Sweet Dreams, signed up with Barnfield for a new 52,000 sq ft warehouse at Burnley’s Primrose Mill.
Robin Cousins centre converts to a warehouse
The Bristol sports centre named in honour of Bristolian Dancing on Ice judge and former world figure skating champion Robin Cousins is to be turned into a warehouse.
Bristol planners have been recommended to approve plans to turn the Robin Cousins Sports Centre, Avonmouth, in a 11,700 sq ft depot for Open 24 Seven. The sports centre was closed in 2005 and has been empty ever since. Despite the recommendation from planning officials, the plan has obstacles to overcome.
North West new warehouse supply dwindles
The North West has one of the most marked shortages of large newly-built logistics space in the country, according to researchers at Jones Lang LaSalle.
JLL’s UK Big Box Industrial and Logistics Market research report says that the region had 21 newly-built speculative warehouse units over 100,000 sq ft - but that today it has just three.
Tenants announced for German three-city scheme
European logistics giants Nagel and Dachser are to be the first tenants at a £209m three-city German distribution scheme.
3PL Nagel is to occupy 272,000 sq ft in Leipzig, whilst Dachser has signed up for 161,000 in Berlin, close to the new Brandenburg airport.
