Fuel card suppliers should provide better service says The Fuelcard People

Customers nationwide want better service from fuel card suppliers, according to The Fuelcard People, and are particularly unhappy about having to deal with faceless call centres.

Steve Clarke, general manager of The Fuelcard People, said: “If a customer needs to discuss their account, they inevitably have to deal with a random call centre operator. They might not have spoken before and might never do so again. All the operator knows about their business is what they see on their screen – and they will not know that much until the customer explains who they are. Next time, they have to repeat the process. ‘Customer Services’ is not a very appropriate name.”

P&O Ferrymasters lands 20m euros lead logistics deal

Supply chain solutions specialist P Ferrymasters has won a new contract worth up to 20million from long-time customer Kingspan Insulated Panels.

Kingspan, a world-leading manufacturer of fire-safe roof, wall and facade construction systems, has appointed P Ferrymasters as lead logistics provider (LLP) for all export traffic from the UK to mainland Europe and the Republic of Ireland. An estimated 6000 loads per year will be covered by the rolling three-year agreement.

Exmac completes turnkey pallet inspection system for Chep

CHEP, the global leader in pallet pooling, sub-contracts a number of its UK pallet conditioning facilities to partners such as Unit Pallets Ltd (UPL). Working together CHEP and UPL have recently completed the build of a brand new 1500 sq m facility in Grangemouth, Scotland.

The Grangemouth plant, which opened in June 2009, is the first CHEP plant in Scotland operated by UPL with capacity for processing 4.3 million pallets per year.

Automated materials handling to be promoted through AMHSA pavilion at IMHX

Of the 300 exhibitors that will participate in IMHX 2010 at the NEC from 16 to 19 November, almost 10% will be members of the Automated Material Handling Systems Association (AMHSA).  

Recognising the increasing importance of automated logistics systems in the modern supply chain, the organisers of IMHX have created a special AMHSA pavilion for the first time in the show’s history. With the event being co-owned by the British Industrial Truck Association, IMHX has always had a large core of support from the manual handling sector but in recent years the exhibition has attracted increasing numbers of automated handling exhibitors, as well as software providers and consultancy firms.

Europa grows and attracts quality new business

Europa Worldwide Logistics has seen 21% year-on-year growth of its Logistics Division, attracting new quality business. The company has focused on providing individually designed customer specific solutions, which has produced both efficiencies and substantial cost-savings for them.

Europa administers customers’ inventories by scanning bar codes to control individual product serial numbers. Patrick Turner, Europa logistics director, says, “Europa has been working closely with customers to move them to EDI transmission of orders and reporting. This eliminates the need for 'manual' email operations. This procedure saves customers time, administration and improves accuracy.”

Deadline approaches for Design 4 Safety Awards

An initiative being rolled out across IMHX 2010 (NEC Birmingham, 16-19 November) for the first time is an awards programme for the handling and storage industry, designed to highlight the importance of product design in improving safety standards.

Jointly organised by IMHX co-owners Quartz Publishing & Exhibitions and BITA (the British Industrial Truck Association), the Design 4 Safety Awards are open to all 300+ anticipated exhibitors at IMHX 2010.
