Sainsbury’s hires Bowmer & Kirkland for new depot
Bowmer & Kirkland has been hired to build a distribution centre in Basingstoke for Sainsbury's.
According to online news sources, the contract will involve the development of a 680,000 sq ft commercial space on the ten-acre site.
Tesco’s new online depot suffers delays
Tesco has experienced 'teething problems' at its new £30 million computerised distribution depot, resulting in late deliveries and apologies to its online customers.
The new depot, which employs around 200 people, opened in January in Enfield, North London and was built in response to the current boom in internet shopping. The warehouse is dedicated to online shoppers and also known as a ‘dotcom-only’ store. It has processed more than 50,000 orders since it opened, serving customers from Essex to Hertfordshire.
Irish logistics networking event to be held in April
The Fourth Irish Logistics Networking Lunch takes place at the Carlton Hotel, Dublin Airport on 3rd April 2012.
The event is organised jointly by the All Ireland Warehousing Association (AIWA) and the United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA) on behalf of the International Federation of Warehousing Logistics Associations (IFWLA) and the Confederation Europeene de l’Entreposage et de la Logistique (CEEL) and is supported by CILT (Ireland).
Storax system survives earthquake

Fruiticola Olmué S.A is a major fruit processing plant based in the South American city of Chillan in central Chile. It processes, freezes and exports all kinds of fruit and vegetables and supplies 7% of the world's frozen raspberries. It employs over 400 people during the growing season from October to June.
Gloucester warehouse blaze treated as suspicious
Around 100 residents from thirty properties were evacuated as firefighters tackled a blaze overnight at a derelict warehouse in Gloucester last Wednesday.
Police have confirmed they are treating the fire at the Old Norville Works, on Hatherley Road in Tredworth, as suspicious.
