Amazon buys Kiva Systems
E-commerce company Amazon.com Inc has agreed to buy the US warehouse automation systems manufacturer Kiva Systems Inc for £487m in a deal that will bring more robotic technology to Amazon's warehouse network.
Kiva makes robots and software that increases workflow in warehouses. Amazon will use the warehouse automation technology to improve productivity by bringing products directly to employees who can process them faster. The Kiva technology will be added to the existing warehouse infrastructure.
Investors go shopping for Tesco
A Tesco warehouse in the Midlands has changed hands in a £46.2m deal.
The 700,000 sq ft distribution unit at Fradley Park, Lichfield, was been sold by Yorkshire-based developers Evans to Epic UK.
IMHX 2013 set to be stronger than ever

Briggs Equipment UK Ltd is launching a futuristic 3D virtual reality warehouse simulation solution designed to enable food manufacturers and logistics providers to explore different approaches and strategies for warehouse operations and to make more informed business decisions before committing to them.
The virtual simulation chair and software is part of Briggs' 'Warehouse Solutions' service and is aimed at all industries. It allows users to explore virutal reality design and scenario testing for new-build or redeveloped depots.
Ford car parts DC opens in Essex
A new 50,000 sq ft distribution centre with space for over 5m car parts has opened in Essex.
@first Parts Solutions, a fully owned subsidiary of Ford Retail, has opened the new depot at Thurrock in order to cope with an increasing supply of parts across 45,000 Ford, Mazda and Iveco lines.
DHL and Unilever complete warehouse expansion
DHL Supply Chain and Unilever are celebrating the official opening of the consumer goods company’s extended Cannock warehousing operation. Marking the culmination of a 21 month project, the expanded automated high bay facility is now capable of housing well over 100,000 pallets, allowing DHL to hold Unilever UK & Ireland’s entire Homecare product range# and its Ambient Foods line*, from a single location.
The ambitious project has seen a substantial extension to the building, as well as upgrades to the I.T. infrastructure, in total creating approximately 75 new jobs to operate the enlarged facility.
